Denise A. Laymon, hired as Minnesota State Community and Technical College’s first executive director of foundations and alumni development, brings extensive nonprofit experience to her new position.

Laymon will lead M State’s efforts to develop and expand private financial support for the college and its students, as well as guiding and expanding alumni affairs. She will work closely with the college’s four campus foundations in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead and Wadena.

She joins the M State staff on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Since June 2011, Laymon has served as a development associate for the Lake Region Healthcare Foundation in Fergus Falls, where she planned, directed and coordinated the annual giving program, planned giving and building donor relations.

She also was responsible for the foundation’s financial management, including development of policies and procedures, monthly financial reports and foundation growth, and for developing and coordinating all foundation events.

Prior to joining the Lake Region foundation, Laymon served from 1999 to 2011 as executive director of the Thief River Falls Education Foundation. In her leadership position for the foundation, she directed all activities including financial, volunteer, fundraising, communications and marketing.

Laymon earned both her master’s degree in strategic leadership and her bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D., and she completed her degree in sales and marketing at what is now Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls.
