Leon Tweeton, 82, of Pelican Rapids

Leon Wallace Tweeton was born in Pelican Rapids to George and Emeline (Herzog) Tweeton on Nov. 11, 1930. He grew up on the Tweeton farm in Lida Township, and attended rural school near his home.
On Sept. 27, 1952, he married Arlene Eleanor Ness in rural Pelican Rapids. They lived on the Tweeton home farm which they purchased from Leon’s parents.
While farming, Leon worked as a mechanic at Ebersvillers in Pelican Rapids and later at Vergas Ford and worked as a dryer operator at the Pelican Rapids AMPI creamery.
Leon also spent 30 years driving school bus.
Leon and Arlene sold their farm and retired to live in Pelican Rapids in 1994.
Through the years Leon was active with the District 79 School Board, Farmers Club, was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its predecessor Pelican Valley Lutheran Church, and served on the Trinity Lutheran Church Council in addition to service as a Lida Township Supervisor.
In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, making loomed rugs, and playing cards with his grandchildren.
Leon was a proficient lefsa turner.
Leon is survived by his wife, Arlene; two daughters and three sons, Elaine (Rob) Fick, Moorhead; Eloise (Paul) Carter, Moorhead; Wesley (Joan) Tweeton, Pelican Rapids; Bruce (Lori) Tweeton, Center Point, Iowa; and Wayne (Sue) Tweeton, Marion, Iowa; grandchildren, Melissa (Eric) Olson, Jayleen (Leonard) Schell, Melaina (Nick) Maloney, Deanna Thomas, Shane (Shariene) Carter, Kristoffer (Tiffany) Carter, Paul (Sheila) Carter, Brandon (Amanda) Tweeton, Kelly (Kristen) Tweeton, Leslie (Luke) Behaunek; Landon (Kelsey) Tweeton, Miranda Tweeton, and Michaela Tweeton; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Richard; and one son, Wesley Dean Tweeton, who passed away in infancy.
Visitation: Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m., with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 11 a.m. Monday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids
Clergy: Rev. Laurie Skow-Anderson and Intern Pastor Ruth Williamson
Burial: Pelican Valley Cemetery, rural Pelican Rapids
