Serial numbers on fake $20s match Fargo’s

Published 11:07am Tuesday, January 8, 2013

The four counterfeit $20 bills used last Friday at three different area store locations have serial numbers that match those used by two Fargo men arrested recently for counterfeiting thousands of dollars in bills.

The Fargo men were arrested after a SWAT team searched their home and found items believed to be used in the production of counterfeit bills that were passed in the metro area recently.

Reports of local counterfeit $20 bills came from Walmart and Papa Murphy’s in Fergus Falls and Quick Stop in Underwood.

Police have surveillance photos of the man suspected of passing two bills at Walmart.

None of the banks in town reported finding any other counterfeit bills, but businesses are still warned to keep an eye out for phony cash.
