Clarence H. “Buddy” Gunderson, 71, of Detroit Lakes

Clarence Gunderson, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the VA Medical Center in Fargo.

Clarence Henry Gunderson was born Dec. 9, 1941, in Detroit Lakes to Clarence and Henrietta (Weets) Gunderson. Buddy was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes, and in 1959, he was part of the first graduating class at the new high school.

Buddy enlisted with the United States Navy and served three years on the USS Springfield. On Sept. 12, 1964, Buddy married Rose Anderson, the daughter of the late John and Evangeline Anderson. They resided in Detroit Lakes.

Buddy worked for 20 years as a part time police officer in the lakes area, 30 years for Standex/Snappy’s retiring in 2008.

For 20 years, he was active as a volunteer firefighter with the Detroit Lakes Fire Department.

Buddy is survived by his wife, Rose of Detroit Lakes, one son, Greg (Maria) Gunderson of Detroit Lakes; several granddaughters; one sister, Donna (DuWayne) Christenson of Fergus Falls; nephews, Kevin and Steve; a niece, Colleen (Dean) Johnson; many brothers- and sisters-in-law, many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and a godson, David of Detroit Lakes.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering of friends and family is planned from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday, at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. A Memorial Service will be at 7 p.m. A spring is planned. David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes is in charge of arrangements.
