FF firm hired to investigate Dilworth chief

The Dilworth City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to hire Pemberton Law Firm in Fergus Falls to investigate allegations against the city’s police chief.

After a closed door meeting Tuesday, the council voted 5-0 to hire the law firm to look into allegations against Josh Ebert, who has faced public scrutiny from his officers in the last month.

State law prevents the city from publicly disclosing the specifics of the complaint until any possible discipline is final.

Ebert started the job as chief in March. Local police officers delivered a letter of “no confidence” to the Mayor on Dec. 10, raising issues with Ebert’s performance of administrative duties such as scheduling, planning and budgeting, along with concerns about the chief’s ethics, accountability and adaptability.

Ebert told the Fargo Forum on Friday that he was aware of the closed meeting. He said he is working with his officers to resolve their concerns, which he called “vague.”
