NEW YORK MILLS — The Verndale Pirates were able to pull away from the hosting Eagles Tuesday as they picked up a 65-54 victory.

The first half saw a hard fought battle between the two teams as they traded buckets and went into the half tied at 33.

The Pirates were able to pull away in the second half as the scoring tandem of Josh Gilb and Dallas Ehrmantraut took over the game. The Eagles could not keep pace as they suffered a home loss.

Gilb led the visiting team with 23 marks, while Ehrmantraut dropped in 22 points. Eric Blaha chipped in 14 in the win for Verndale.

Ted Hendrickx led New York Mills with 12 tallies, while teammates Damon Tumberg (11), Chance Pettow (11) and Charlie Peeters (10) were also in double figures in a balanced scoring night for the Eagles.

The Eagles will look to end their four game skid Friday as they welcome in the Sebeka Trojans for a 7:30 p.m. Park Region Conference battle.
