FF dance team first at BBE [UPDATED]
Published 10:11am Friday, January 11, 2013 Updated 12:17pm Friday, January 11, 2013Release the Fury. That is what the Fergus Falls/Underwood Varsity Dance Team did on Monday evening when they competed at the Brooten-Belgrade-Elrosa Invitational and took first place in Jazz and second place in High Kick.
In addition to the challenge of competing in two different events where some of the other dance teams chose to compete in only one event, the Fury Dance Team was further challenged because the music technician played the wrong song for the high kick dance.
With shocked faces, the dancers maintained their composure and began to improvise and dance to the beat of the new song. Fortunately, after a few measures into the song, Coach Tana Zeismer conferred with the Superior Judge and the Fury Dance Team was allowed to be moved down in the program and perform their high kick to their pre-selected song.
“I have never been so proud of my Varsity girls,” said Zeismer. “They showed us last night that they won’t cave under pressure and stressful situations. There is nothing more scary for a dance team than getting out on the floor and your music doesn’t work. They were able to put us at the end of the kick category to go again. When something like that happens I have seen more teams fall apart on the floor. Not my girls. No way. That was the best I have ever seen their kick dance. But then they were left with a 5 minute uniform change. The girls were still tired from doing kick, but they just blew us away once again with their performance on the floor. The best again I had ever seen their jazz dance — proving that they earned those trophies and proving that we are releasing the fury.
Captain Nadia Fischer-Danzeisen added her words of praise for the team, “I thought the team did really great considering all the flukes with our music in our kick dance. I am proud of our team and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season holds for us.”
