Otter girls end skid, win in OT 2-1

Published 10:39am Friday, January 11, 2013

ST. CLOUD — It had been over a month since the Fergus Falls girls hockey team had recorded a win, losing close games and skating to ties.

Thursday night the Otters were able to pick up a win in stellar fashion as Steph Kolstad knocked in a overtime goal to win a 2-1 decision over the St. Cloud Icebreakers.

The game started out in a stalemate as neither team could convert on scoring opportunities in the first period.

The Icebreakers did just that as they sounded the buzzer in the second period to take a one goal lead. Fergus was finally able to light the lamp in the second at 6:28 as Sydney Kuehl slipped in a Kolstad and Megan Odland assist.

The bookend period saw a similar outcome as the girls skated to a 1-1 tie before overtime.

In overtime, Kolstad took a Kuehl and Annie Magnusson pass and planted it in the back of the St. Cloud net for the win.

Fergus netminder, Jordie Salwei, turned away 19 shots on goal, while the Otters were able to post 26 on the Icebreaker net.

The Otters will host the Detroit Lakes Lakers in a Saturday special at 7:15 p.m. at the Fergus Falls Community Ice Arena.
