EAST GRAND FORKS — The Pelican Rapids girls basketball team turned up the pressure on defense in the second half and it paid off as they defeated the East Grand Forks Green Wave 62-33.

The first half was a seesaw battle between the two teams. The Vikings would gain the edge going into the break, holding a 27-21 lead.

Pelican Rapids made a defense adjustment in the second half and were able to limit the Green Wave to 12 total points, while finding their offensive stride for 35 points, sealing the win.

“We really picked up our defensive intensity in the second half,” Viking coach Brian Korf said. “We got tough on the boards and it allowed us a few second chance buckets.”

Mackenzie Korf led the Vikings with 16 points and dished out seven assists, while teammate Alyssa Huseby cleaned up the glass pulling down 16 rebounds in the win.

Pelican Rapids took control of the boards, pulling down 44 rebounds compared to East Grand Forks’ 33.

The Vikings will look to continue their seven game winning streak as they host the Detroit Lakes Lakers Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
