Gene Swanson, 73 of Erhard

Gene Swanson, died Friday, Jan. 11 at Pioneer Care in Fergus Falls.

Gene Albert Swanson was born August 27, 1939 to Albert John and Gladys (Haarstick) Swanson in Pelican Rapids. He grew up in the Erhard area. In the early 1950’s he moved with his family to the farm he currently resided at. Gene attended country school. He was a member of the National Guard for over 20 years. On July 22, 1967, he was united in marriage to Sharon Kugler. The couple made their home on the family farm, where they hobby farmed. Gene worked for Mid-America Dairy and retired in 2000 for health reasons.

He was a member of Tonseth Lutheran Church for over 45 years. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, car racing, playing cards, “story telling” and tinkering in his shop.

Gene is survived by his wife Sharon of Erhard; son Kirby (Robin) Swanson of Erhard and Teresa (Kent) Jorgenson of rural Underwood; 5 grandchildren, Cody Tullar, Riley Swanson, Daniel Swanson, Andrea Jorgenson and Bryce Jorgenson; sisters Ottillie (Gerald) Tollefson of Pelican Rapids, Clarice (Larry) Peterson of Maine, MN, Diann (Larry) Drechsel of Erhard; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Gladys, an infant brother, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vernon and Gladys Kugler, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lonnie and Dianne Kugler.

Visitation: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan.15 at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls and one hour prior to the service at the church

Funeral Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16 at Tonseth Lutheran Church, Rural Fergus Falls

Burial: Tonseth Church Cemetery, Rural Fergus Falls
