Recreational activities give residents of the Veterans Home in Fergus Falls something to look forward to.

Inga Krause, who volunteers at the home and is also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, wanted to do something a little special for the veterans. She asked the Auxiliary to make a donation to the Vets recreation fund, and they agreed.

“It’s really important for the Eagles Auxiliary to donate locally for our vets,” said Krause.

Krause, along with Auxiliary President Mary Moe, presented a check for $300 to Recreation Program Assistant Brad Anderson and Deanna Mounts, Development and Volunteer Services Director. The money will be used for food and prizes during bingo sessions.

According to Mounts, the Auxiliary donation is an integral part of the outstanding recreation program at the vet’s home.

“Our recreation program is primarily funded from donated money,” said Mounts. “We do 250 to 350 outings a year including two or three meal outings a week, plus activities like bingo, and bringing in musicians.”

“Activities like bingo gives residents a sense of purpose, and something to look forward to,” said Anderson. “Plus there is a lot of laughter and fun.”

“We all have some experience with a vet, or have a veteran in our family,” said Moe. “This is for them, for their service to our country.”

Mounts added that the Auxiliary donation came at a good time, when recreation funds were lower than normal.

“We can’t add years to life, but we can add life to years,” said Mounts.
