FF Band deserves the cash [UPDATED]

When it was announced on Dec. 19 that the Fergus Falls Marching Band was to play at the Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 21, there were at least some who were concerned about whether the $60,000 to pay for the band’s expenses could be raised in such a short time.

Clearly, such worries were unwarranted.

With more than $70,000 in the bank, Director Scott Kummrow now has enough funds to where band members will likely only have to pay for souvenirs along the way.

Clearly, the community deserves praise for showing their support.

When the band marches past President Barack Obama on Monday, it will be hard for those of us from Fergus Falls to not tear up with pride. Our band has put us on the national map, and will make all of us proud.

Based on the donations that have flowed in in a span of less than three weeks, it’s obvious most everyone in Fergus Falls and the area recognizes that fact.

It seems the least Fergus Falls residents could do was to pay for the band’s expenses.

The extra money should go back into future band activities.
