Social media is in stride with the Fergus Falls Marching band.

People can find out what the band is up to via Facebook, Twitter and blogs.

The online connections allow people to get up to date information on the band’s progress and their current adventures.

Scott Kummrow, Band Director for the Fergus Falls Marching Band, said the use of social networking has been used for the last two years.

“We use it to communicate with the kids and alumni,” Kummrow said.

Kummrow said that it began with Facebook, but in the past few years, kids have been going to Twitter more for social networking.

“For instance, today I won’t be seeing the kids much, but through these websites,” Kummrow said. “We are using this technology to communicate with the kids.”

Through the school’s website, Kummrow said through music.fergusotters.org allows for the school to post photo albums of the band performing in parade.

“We also have the band directors blogging through blogspot,” Kummrow said. He added the kids in the band will be blogging soon as well.

“We will set it up for the kids to begin blogging during the trip,” Kummrow said.
