Director: Process grueling to get to D.C.Published 11:21am Thursday, January 17, 2013
It took quite a process for the Fergus Falls Marching Band to be chosen for the presidential inaugural parade — both four years ago and this year.
“In November, we submitted and application to the Joint Task Force National Capitol Region (JTF-NCR),” said Scott Kummrow, band director for the Fergus Falls Marching Band.
Kummrow said he had to submit audio, video and a descriptive narrative as the first step in the process to apply for the band to participate in the parade.
The JTF-NCR is a millitary group that pares down the 3,000 apllicants down to 300.
As a joint component, it includes members from all branches of the armed forces of the United States, including Reserve and National Guard components.
“Then the 300 are sent through the Department of Defense to the Presidential Inauguration Committee,” Kummrow said.
From there, the committee then cuts the 300 applicants presented to them down to the 100 chosen for the parade. The Fergus Falls Marching Band, after the process, was informed in late December.
