Spring programs for youth starting [UPDATED]
Published 9:53am Thursday, January 17, 2013 Updated 11:54am Thursday, January 17, 2013Winter break is over and we are ready to start spring programming for children and teens at the Fergus Falls Public Library.
For further information, please visit our website (www.fergusfalls.lib.mn.us), Facebook page, or pick up a flier at the library.
I would like to thank the Friends of the Fergus Falls Public Library who continue to support youth programming year after year. These programs would not be possible without this group of dedicated community members. All programs at FFPL are free of charge and open to the public.
Storytime is held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and runs for 13 weeks from Jan. 18 through April 10. The baby/toddler session, ages 0-2, is from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and the preschool session, ages 3-5, is from 10:30-11:15 a.m. Registration is not required.
Tot Cafe (open playtime at the library) is for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers. Tot Cafe is held on Thursdays from 9:00-11:00AM and runs from Jan. 17 through April 10.
The popular monthly program “2nd Saturdays” is held the second Saturday of the month from February through May at 10 a.m. This family-friendly event is great for children of all ages and we have some fun programs planned.
We’ll kick off our spring run with “Funny Fairy Tale Theatre” on Feb. 9 and “Life-Sized Candyland” on March 9.
Youth Chess continues after-school on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Children and teens of all ages are welcome. Chess mentors will be available to offer guidance and teach kids how to play. Chess sets are provided.
At the request of its members, our Book Bunch book club program will now separate by gender during the school year. “Book Bunch for Boys” will meet on Thursdays, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m., from Feb. 7 through March 28. Boys in fourth through eighth grade can register now (space is limited). We will be reading “The Fourth Stall,” by Fargo author Chris Rylander. Book Bunch for both boys and girls will meet in the summer.
New for the spring is our “Tween Time” series for students in fourth through eighth grade. These programs happen once a month on a Wednesday from 4 to 4:45 p.m. We’re offering “Bookmark Mania” on Feb. 26, “Minute to Win It” on March 26, and “Upcycled Craft Explosion” on April 23.
We also have some special events coming up: Sweet Reads Winter Reading Program for the month of February, Elephant & Piggie Party on Feb. 22, PJ Storytime on March 21, and Family Movie Night on March 28.
“The Library NINJAS” is our teen advisory group and is open to students in grades sixth through 12th. New members are also welcome. Members get to play games, eat snacks, and help make the library better. For more information, interested students should stop by the NINJAS’ Open House on Tuesday, Jan. 22, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The NINJAS meet twice a month on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Arielle Krohn is the Youth Librarian at the Fergus Falls Public Library.
