FF boys parry Sabres 63-59

The Otter boys continue to find ways to win, even when they let a 21 point lead dwindle, as they topped the Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres Thursday 63-59.

Fergus Falls came out in front of their home crowd ready to play as they were able to hold Bemidji State recruit Patrick Fisher to four first half points as they left up 39-18 at the break.

In the second half, a combination of the Sabres finding a groove and the Otters hitting cruise control allowed Sartell to make a run. Fergus’ first half lead proved to be cushion enough for the Otters as they held off the surging Sabres for the win.

“We shot 71 percent in the first half and we were executing our offense well,” Otter coach Dave Rund said. “We came out flat in the second half and made some poor decisions. This gave Sartell confidence and allowed them to get back into the game.”

Austin Rund had a great night from beyond the arc nailing three of five three-pointers, finishing with 19 points. Teammates Reece Johnson (13), Jackson McAllister (13) and Mike Millard (10) all finished in double figures in the game.

Sartell’s Fisher led the team in scoring with 21 points, scoring 17 of those in the second half.

“I’m happy with the win and the progress we have been making, but we need to find a way to maintain our intensity, physically and mentally,” Rund added.

The Otters will look to remain perfect on the week as they host Sauk Rapids-Rice in another CLC battle at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
