LAKE PARK — Abbot Aho and Tyler Giza continue to have great seasons for the Fergus Falls wrestling team as the two took home individual titles and the Otters placed second at the Terry Teiken Invitational in Lake Park Friday.
Aho claimed the 113 lbs. title after recording two technical falls. Aho received a bye in the first round, but was sharp defeating Shawn Nelson of Mahnomen/Waubun 18-2 in the semi-finals. In the title match Aho breezed past Moorhead’s Ethan Tallakson for the win.
Giza would open the tournament with a win over Roman Bode of Fosston/Bagley by fall and follow that with a 14-4 technical fall win over Landon Dickhaus of Moorhead in the semi-finals. Giza would claim the 120 lbs. championship with a 17-2 technical fall victory of East Grand Forks’ Eddie Bushaw.
In the 195 lbs. weight class, Abram Aho claimed a runner-up finish as he defeated Andy Westoff of United Clay Becker in the first round of the tournament.In the semi-finals, Aho saw his match with Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton’s Garret Pemelton go to four overtimes before he closed out for the win against his opponent. In the finals, Chase Morlock of Moorhead defeated Aho by major decision 17-5.
The Otters also saw three third place finishes from Ben Schindler (126 lbs.), Walker Heinen (170 lbs.) and Gus Makovsky (182 lbs.). Other finishes included Taylor Tenner (fourth,) Joe Wedll (fifth, 132 lbs.), Spencer Sikkink (sixth, 106 lbs.) and Jake Antrim (sixth, 145 lbs.).
Moorhead would capture the meet with a team score of 279.5, while the Otters were a distant second with a score of 142.5. Fosston/Bagley would round out the top three with a 133 team score.
The Otters will be back to dual action Tuesday as they host Detroit Lakes at 6:15 p.m.
