LaVern Eggum, 77, of Dalton

LaVern Eggum, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

LaVern Clifford Eggum was born on Feb. 26, 1935, in St. Olaf Township, rural Dalton, the son of Phillip and Clara (Nelson) Eggum. He was baptized and confirmed in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and attended Country School District 2 in St. Olaf Township.

On June 30, 1995, LaVern and Lois Goodhart were married. LaVern dairy and grain farmed for a number of years. He then started with construction working for Dycon Construction Co. in Fargo, Nodlund Construction Co. in Minneapolis and then Jack Olson Construction Co. in northern Minnesota, retiring from there and returning to Dalton, where he had a few head of livestock and hobby farmed.

LaVern enjoyed playing cards, cribbage games at the station, talking politics, and collecting toy tractors, baseball cards and coins.

LaVern was a people person who loved visiting and he especially enjoyed spoiling his granddaughter, Cheyenne. He was a member of Our Savior’s-Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church and the Eagle Lake Sportsman’s Club.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; a daughter, Debra Goodhart of Onalaska, Wis.; granddaughter, Cheyenne Goodhart of Blooming Prairie; two sisters, Phyllis Ness and Carolyn Busko, both of Fergus Falls; one brother, Rodney (Mavis) Eggum of Dalton; and by numerous relatives and friends.

LaVern was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Clara Eggum; and one brother, Harold Eggum.

Visitation: Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home

Service: 11 a.m., Wednesday, at Our Savior’s-Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church, Dalton
