BATTLE LAKE — The Battle Lake girls basketball team met a familiar foe in Rothsay Thursday night, overcoming first half struggles to come back and win a hard fought 51-48 game.lands

The Tigers’ defensive pressure forced Battler turnovers early in the first half. Battle Lake had a total of 18 at the end of the night.

Trailing 20-24 heading into the second half, the Battlers made the necessary adjustments to get the win.

“Rothsay’s a tough team and they always give us trouble,” said Battle Lake head coach Tori Ehlert. “Mentally we fought through to the second half. We had players make some key shots and rebounds to seal the deal.”

The Battlers were lead by junior forward Carly VanWatermulen, who put in 14 points and brought down 10 boards for a double-double. Emily Marso scored 15, while freshman center Katie Rilla contributed six points and 10 rebounds.

Ashley Maack led the Tigers with a dozen tallies, while teammate Lexy Dunbar chipped in 11.

The Tigers travel Monday to Parkers Prairie looking to upset the undefeated Panthers. Battle Lake heads to Bertha-Hewitt Tuesday to face the Bears, who have won seven out of their last eight games. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
