FF girls drop tight game to Prowlers

Jordie Salwei and the Fergus Falls girls hockey team had a strong defensive outing Saturday afternoon, but two second period goals spelled doom for the Otters as they fell 2-1 to Thief River Falls on their home ice.

After both teams skated to a stalemate in the first period, Morgan Martell slipped in an unassisted goal for the Prowlers in the first minute of the second. Fergus would respond six minutes later as Lauren Norgren swatted in a Megan Odland pass to tie the game at 1-1. Thief River would gain the advantage before the buzzer sounded as Emily Bergland tapped in a Martell assist to give the visitor a one goal lead.

The Otters were able to keep the Prowlers off the board for the remainder of the game, but were unable to find the back of the net themselves as they dropped their fourth game in a row.

Salwei was tough in net for the Otters as she posted 40 saves, while the Fergus offense struggled to land shots on the Prowler goalie as they finished with 14 attempts.

The Otter girls will close out their home season Tuesday night as they take on River Lakes in a 7:15 p.m. match up.
