FF man convicted of assault [UPDATED]Published 10:07am Monday, January 28, 2013 Updated 12:13pm Monday, January 28, 2013
A Fergus Falls man was convicted of third degree assault for punching someone during a party at the Orwell Wildlife Management Area, which resulted in a broken jaw and concussion, according to court reports.
Brand James Wheeler, 19, was sentenced to 60 days in the Otter Tail County Jail and supervised probation for five years.
Authorities were alerted to a report of an assault on April 15. The victim was brought to a hospital, where he was treated for injuries. He did not know, at the time, who assaulted him.
On April 16, the victim told police he had a broken jaw and a concussion. The concussion was the reason he said he did not remember much from the assault. The victim was told by friends who assaulted him and police followed up. Witnesses told authorities what had happened, that the defendant hit the victim during a party.
