This year due to the Marching Band trip to Washington, D.C., the Fury Dance High School Varsity Dance Team was unable to compete at CLC Conference Championships, but were still granted one All Conference in each category and one Honorable Mention in both also. Honorees were selected for their skill, leadership, and dedication to the team. The following three dancers were selected for honors: Nadia Fischer-Danzeisen; Katie Pederson; and Asante Creek.

Nadia Fischer-Danzeisen has been a perennial on the Varsity Dance Team competing for six years beginning her debut as a seventh grader. Her commitment to the dance team has been unparalleled. Every year since seventh grade she has been voted by her team members as the hardest working member on the team.

For the past five years, she has been assisting with the choreography and for the past three years has been head student choreographer. Both her junior and senior year she was selected as captain by her teammates and coaches.

As captain, Nadia has helped lead her dance team to first- and second-place trophies in this year’s competition. No easy feat considering her team was comprised of all underclass dancers except for Nadia.

Individually, she won first place in high kick in tri-state dance competition this past summer bringing home pride to her high school. In addition, she has spearheaded the sponsorship fundraising drive for the dancers for the past three years escorting them from business to business to solicit funds for the dance team since the dance program is not a school-funded activity.

It is fitting then that Nadia Fischer-Danzeisen, senior, was named All-Conference in both High Kick and Jazz. `This is the second year in a row that Nadia has been bestowed such honors. said this of Nadia,

“She shows a high level in skill, leadership and dedication every day for her team,” said Coach Tana Ziesmer. “Every day commitment is what distinguishes a leader.”

Katie Pederson, sophomore, was named Honorable Mention in High Kick. This is the second year in a row that Katie has earned this honor. This is Katie’s third year on the team and second year on varsity. Coach Ziesmer praised Katie’s ability.

“She has the highest and strongest kicks on our team,” Ziesmer said. “She also is a great natural leader and believes this team is truly an extension of her family.” Of note, Katie Pederson was one of the dancers who performed with the Marching Band for President Obama’s inauguration.

Asante Creek, an eighth grader, was named Honorable Mention in Jazz. This is Asante’s second year on the team, both being on varsity.

Coach Ziesmer may have found herself a blue chip in Asante.

“She pushes herself in Jazz skills and has blown me away in how she has improved at such a young age in such a short amount of time,” Ziesmer said. “Asante is a great asset to this team in not only skill but in her dedication.”

At 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 8, the community will have the opportunity to watch these three conference award winners along with the rest of the Fury Dance Team perform with passion, energy and style at the Kennedy High School auditorium

As one of the highlights of the show, you will be able to witness the beauty and elegance of Nadia’s performance as she will dance solo for her senior recital.

Also, the program, “Dance with a Heart Filled with Passion,” will feature dazzling performances from the Fergus Falls School of Dance.
