New plan worth the money [UPDATED]
Published 9:45am Thursday, January 31, 2013 Updated 11:46am Thursday, January 31, 2013After the school’s first attempt to upgrade many of its outdoor facilities was narrowly voted down by area residents, a new plan has been put together that will address many of the school’s needs for $700,000 less than the previous proposal.
We are in favor of the new plan, which will improve safety by keeping more students on the school’s campus for after-school activities and providing proper irrigation to fields.
We are glad the school stepped back and did additional homework to determine what residents didn’t like about the initial proposal.
The school cut out certain things to make the project as affordable as possible without compromising the major benefits to students and community members, including safety and accessibility issues.
One part of the improvement project often overlooked is community pride. We want to live in a community that takes pride in what it has to offer, and the public school’s outdoor facilities are a visible part of Fergus Falls.
While the latest outdoor facilities improvement proposal will still come with a big price tag, the upgrades will be well worth the cost.
