Brrr! It’s cold outside

Published 10:55am Monday, January 21, 2013

With the wind chill of minus 35 expected today, health issues such as hypothermia, frost bite and even death can occur from the harsh conditions.

So the National Weather Services advices residents to dress warm.

With the high temperature of minus 8 today, and tomorrow expected to be even colder, the National Weather Service advises caution.

Because of the extreme cold, Hillcrest Lutheran Academy closed school today.

Wind chill increases the rate at which a body loses heat, so the air on a windy day feels colder than the temperature indicated on a thermometer.

With skin exposed to these conditions, the National Weather service said frost bite can occur within minutes.

It advises people to dress warm layer their clothing.

It also advises wearing face masks if people are outside for a longer period of time.

People should only be outside if neccessary advised the NWS.

For people working outside in this weather, they are advised to keep moving to keep warm and should also go inside perodically when they take breaks to avoid potential health issues from the cold weather.
