Miss Fergus Falls International aims to help others

Published 11:23am Monday, January 28, 2013

For Jasmine Stanton, her way to the title of Miss Fergus Falls International for 2013 began as a bit of a misunderstanding.

“I competed in Miss Minnesota USA and ended up leaving about $1,000 in pageant stuff (behind),” Stanton said. “My dad called to complain, but it turns out he called the wrong number. He called Miss Minnesota International instead of USA.”

She said her father then shared her story of traveling around to raise money for the St. Christopher’s Fund to the organization.

After hearing her story, the organization told Stanton’s father she would be a good candidate for them.

The Miss International Pageant system recognizes young women for their accomplishments at home, work and in the community.

As a representative of Fergus Falls, she will be able to assist with upcoming fundraising events, parades and public service campaigns.

Stanton said she is taking her role seriously. She has a coach in the cities and also helps out with charity programs. She said the reason she is doing this is because it involves work within the community.

“I am currently selling ads for the Go Red Heart Association,” Stanton said. “They are in the Miss Minnesota International program book for the year.”

Stanton said she is hoping to meet up with Mayor Hal Leland to see what she can do to help out within the community.
