Otters take CLC meet 96-76 over Apollo

The Fergus Falls boys swim team did not let the holiday break slow them down as they were able to defeat Central Lakes Conference opponent St. Cloud Apollo 96-76 Thursday at the Kennedy Secondary School Pool.

The Otters celebrated Parents’ Night at the pool and came out ready to impress.

Michael Aasness was on his game as he captured first place in diving with a score of 257.80. Fergus also saw divers Reid Magnuson and Mike Pistulka take third and fourth place at the meet.

After the diving event, the Fergus Falls swim team honored former diver Mike Schulenberg and Aasness.

Aasness broke Schulenberg 31 year old diving record on Dec. 8. Aasness, Schulenberg, his diving instructor Inga Nelson, current diving coach Mike Hartwell and their families were acknowledged.

The Otters’ Clay Danielson had a great meet winning the 200 freestyle (2:02.45) and the 100 fly (1:01.47). Teammates Joe Kitzman and Cal Mouritsen were also double winners. Kitzman capture firsts in the 200 IM (2:12.47) and the 100 freestyle (53.41), while Mouritsen won the 50 freestyle (23.40) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.74).

Conner Hatfield also picked up a win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.01 and runner-up honors in the 200 freestyle.

Luke Raitz, in his first varsity meet, took home two second place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle events, while Dalton Mouritsen took second in the 500 freestyle with a personal best time of 6:25 and third in the 200 IM.

Fergus was able to take home two wins in the relay events as the team of Hatfield, Dalton Mouritsen, Tabbut and Mortenson won the 200 freestyle relay (1:46.36), while Kitzman, Danielson, Raitz and Cal Mouritsen won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:43.60.

In JV action, Isaac Nadgewick took two first place finishes in the 50 freestyle (27.95) and 100 freestyle (1:04.79).

The Otters will now travel down to the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center for the Maroon and Gold Invitational Saturday.
