A car attempting to pass an eastbound snowplow slid on ice in the oncoming lane of traffic before going into a ditch and striking another vehicle Thursday.

Kyle Hendershop was traveling eastbound and attempted to pass a county plow truck in a no passing zone on County Hwy. 46 east of Parkers Prairie at about 9 a.m. After passing the plow, he slid on the icy road and lost control of the vehicle.

McKenzie Sigfrid, who was traveling westbound , swerved into the ditch in an attempt to avoid Hendershot. The two vehicles collided as they entered the ditch on the north side of the highway.

Hendershot was cited for unsafe passing.

“Be careful when you are passing, and know the area you are passing,” said Otter Tail County Chief Deputy Stacy Paulseth. “When it is icy and the wind is blowing, slow down a bit.”

No injuries were reported.
