PELICAN RAPIDS — Ryan Bruggeman had a hot hand Saturday evening as he dropped in 28 points in a 72-43 Pelican Rapids rout of Staples-Motley.

The Cardinals didn’t know what hit them after getting off the bus as the Vikings dominated the first half proceedings. Bruggeman flipped in 19 of his points in the half as the home team went into the break with a 47-20 lead.

Staples-Motley focused their defensive energy on Pelican post player Tucker Forsgren, but saw the Vikings counter with strong play from their perimeter in the second half, sealing the victory.

Devin Schell (16) and Travis Haugen (10) were also in double digits in scoring for the Vikings, while Forsgren contributed on the glass pulling down 11 rebounds in the win.

The Vikings will travel Tuesday to take on Heart O’Lakes rival Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton in a 7:30 p.m. tilt.
