Dream comes true
Published 11:55am Monday, February 4, 2013Opening a thrift store has been a dream for Sandy Kutzke for some time. Now she is achieving that dream by opening As Is Thrift in downtown Fergus Falls.
“I always wanted to open a second-hand shop,” Kutzke said. “A lot of people are going green now and I think this is the way to do it.”
How the business works is Kutzke buys the merchandise to resell.
“What we’re going to be selling will be furniture, household wares, knick knacks, toys…basically anything used that is in good shape,” Kutzke said.
Kutzke said she moved to Fergus Falls in 1982, and that her mother was from the area. Prior to going into her own business, she had worked for the Goodwill.
She said she is a little nervous about opening the business.
“I am a little nervous. It was my dream,” Kutzke said. “And I thought well, this spot (in Riverfront Square) had opened and figured to try it out. (The space) is not as big as I would like it, but it’s a start.”
She said she would like to see the business expand beyond the shop in the Riverfront Square. She would like to see it have one central location, with smaller branches that specialize in certain items spread out through the area.
“I’m hoping I get such a demand that I can expand out,” Kutzke said.
As Is Thrift store will be open Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
