Rocket girls defense stifles Comets 49-11

Keeping pace for the top spot in the Little Eight Conference, the Underwood girls basketball team was able to put the clamps on the Hillcrest Comet offense Monday in a 49-11 win.

The Comets struggled to find their offensive rhythm as the Rockets continually contested their shots. Underwood went back to the lockeroom with a 29-9 lead at half-time.

Things went from bad to worse for Hillcrest as they went cold on the floor and saw only one bucket in the second half of play as they finished 11 percent from the field. Underwood would continued their defensive effort and finished with their third straight victory.

“It was great defensive play by Underwood,” Comet coach Charlie Brue said.

Underwood’s Carly Masloski had a team high 17 points, while teammate Great Thormodson chipped in 14 in the win.

The Comets Laura Tungseth picked up four points and six rebounds, while Abbe Monacelli had eight steals and three tallies in the game.

The Rockets will now host New York Mills in a 7:30 p.m. non-conference game Tuesday. The Comets will take on Brandon/Evansville Thursday in a 7:30 p.m. LEC tilt.
