Joyce Benson, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, in Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo.television

Joyce Carol Benson, the daughter of Hjalmer and Lillian (Winden) Benson, was born in Enderlin, N.D., on March 28, 1917. She grew up and received her education in Enderlin, where she graduated as valedictorian of her high school class.

She attended and graduated from Jamestown College, Jamestown, N.D.

Joyce was a school teacher for 40 years. She taught 34 years in the junior high school in Fergus Falls, where she retired in 1979.

After retirement, Joyce moved to Moorhead to live. She was deeply committed to Christian education, served on the founding board of directors of Park Christian School in Moorhead, and served as the administrator at Park during the 1986-1987 school year.

Joyce had a deep personal faith in Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Fargo. She was a faithful volunteer at Elim Rehab and Care Center for many years. In 2003, Joyce moved to Pioneer House Assisted Living in Fargo, where she had lived since.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kenneth; and sisters, Marion Benson, Betty Nelson and Bernice Rood. She is survived by a sister, Crystal Benson, Plymouth; a brother, Everett (Emily) Benson, Coon Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m., with a prayer service at 5 p.m., at the funeral home

Service: 11 a.m. Monday, at Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Fargo.

Burial: Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin, N.D.
