People need to use a little common sense [UPDATED]
Published 9:50am Thursday, February 7, 2013 Updated 11:53am Thursday, February 7, 2013Nearly all of the recent shootings have been committed by people with mental problems. So let’s deal with that issue instead of blaming guns. These shooters have already broken many laws, so will more laws make any difference?
President Obama and Vice President Biden want to prohibit assault rifles. I ask, “What is an assault rifle?” It can’t be a full automatic gun because they have been outlawed since the early 1930’s. So could it be semi-automatic guns? Many hunting rifles are semi-automatics. Many bird hunting shotguns are semi-automatics. Most handguns are semi-automatics, so it must be guns that just “look bad.”
President Obama recently took a solemn oath to defend the Constitution which includes the 2nd Amendment allowing United States citizens to “keep and bear arms.”
I’d like to share a quote with our readers… “This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!” signed … Adolph Hitler — Passing of the German Weapons Act in 1935.
Hitler knew what to do. First take the guns away from the people.

Why do we have to keep reinventing the wheel every other week just because a few people didn’t get the memo.
Lets start with the first paragraph of the letter by Gene Wells…..Gene, like many gun enablers want you to believe that the nearly all the mass shooters are crazy, off their rocker, loony toons and that explanation lets guns off the hook. Then when the gun enablers are arguing against “gun free zones” they want you to believe that mass shooters have enough wit’s about them that they have the wherewithal to bypass target after target until they find a building with a “no guns allowed sign”, then their crazy brain says “Ah ah, it will be safe for me to go in here and kill a bunch of people because the sign says “no guns allowed”.
According to the gun enablers shooters are crazy one moment (when it suits their argument) and absolutely sane when that suits their argument.
Here is the truth folks, mass killers go to where their “grievance” is to do their killing, sign or not.
Next Gene says he’s confused and you should be also, about what constitutes an Assault Rifle. Well Gene, I’m not confused, I know exactly what an assault rifle is because I carried one in Vietnam, even without that experience I still would know because I can go the “Assault weapon ban language to find out”.
If that weren’t easy enough I could just Google the kind of rifle most of these mass killers used, THEY know exactly what an assault rifle is and they know that’s the rifle they want to use, there is no confusion in their mind. They also understand that the cosmetic style makes a great deal of difference, because an assault style rifle can be “Bump Fired” (look it up, on You-tube) and “slide fire Stocks” can be purchased which make an assault style rifle virtually a full automatic rifle.
I’m glad Gene Wells agrees that full automatic weapons have been outlawed or restricted since the early 1930’s….that’s proof that the second amendment is not “absolute” and can legally be restricted without taking everyone’s guns.
Lastly Gene Wells recycles that worn-out quote from Adolph Hitler in the hopes that you will associate those for reasonable gun safety measurers with Adolph Hitler.
Here is the problem with Gene’s quote, Adolph Hitler never said any such thing. Not once. Not ever. Never the less it resurfaces every time the gun enablers try to look like reasonable people. Paste this link to your browser and read for yourself what Hitler really said… http://propagandaprofessor.net/2011/09/ and read the Myth of Hitler’s Gun Ban.
I think personal protection and government’s passion for control lets guns off the hook.
I think school children should be as well protected as money in a bank, or arrogant politicians.
Banning “assault rifles” will do nothing, pistols were used at Sandy Hook. A psycho will find a way to kill, John Wayne Gacy killed 33 young boys without a gun.
Following the Nazi Weapons Act of 1938:
“The Night of the Broken Glass (Kristallnacht)–the infamous Nazi rampage against Germany’s Jews–took place in November 1938. It was preceded by the confiscation of firearms from the Jewish victims. On Nov. 8, the New York Times reported from Berlin, “Berlin Police Head Announces ‘Disarming’ of Jews,”" constitutionalistnc.tripod.com/hitler-leftist/id14.html
Well good for you Mike, you have opinions. As you well know I have tried to get you to answer these three questions since January 22nd, that’s 17 days ago.
Do you think anyone should be able to buy a firearm anonymously at a gun show?
Do you think all restrictions on magazine capacity are Illegal?
Do you favor background checks for all firearm purchases?
When you get the courage to answer these three questions without equivocation or weasel words, I’ll take the remainder of your positions with a little more respect.
‘Do you think anyone should be able to buy a firearm anonymously at a gun show?’
‘Do you favor background checks for all firearm purchases?’
Anonymous purchases is the way it was when I frequented gun shows in the 70′s&80′s. I don’t recall the violence at that time attributed to gun ownership as is prevalent today. I think we should be able to transfer gun ownership as freely today as it was then.
‘Do you think all restrictions on magazine capacity are Illegal?’
Magazine capacity restrictions are pointless. I have heard police officers in high-crime neighborhoods state they are more concerned with small, easily concealed handguns, than with high-capacity large frame handguns and cumbersome semiautomatic rifles.
Now can we be friends?
No, because this isn’t face book and I’m not your friend. You didn’t answer the questions. You used weasel words and evasion to avoid answering the questions.
What I can conclude from your non-answers is that …
Anyone, regardless their mental capacity or criminal history should be able to walk into any gun show and buy any weapon he desires from a private seller with a booth at the show without any identification or background check and you believe the same is acceptable over the internet. Look on you-tube if you think this doesn’t happen.
You believe any restriction what so ever on the number of cartages in a magazine or drum is illegal. Put another way you are OK with mass killers being able to shoot 100,200, 300 shots before any bystander has the opportunity to disarm the killer when he stops to change magazines. Which involves removing the empty magazine, inserting a full magazine then chambering the first round. That exact scenario has happened at several mass shootings but only when the killer stopped to reload. You apparently think killers shouldn’t be inconvenienced by annoying frequent magazine changes.
It’s no wonder you didn’t want to answer the questions.
If we are talking constitutional rights, why did our American forefathers and foremothers vote to ban any types of guns and why was that action constitutional? If we are talking about personal protection why did the fearful not advocate for continued legality of sawed off shot guns, a much better defensive weapon than a pistol or a rifle at close range such as a home invasion. If we think we are ever going to be able to arm ourselves to successfully commit an act of treason by using physical force to over throw our legally elected government then we are nuts for we have armed our soldiers much too well.
A fully automatic gun is one that will fire once the trigger is pulled and continue until the pressure on the trigger is released. A semi-automatic will fire every time the trigger is pulled but not fire again until the pressure on the trigger is released and squeezed again. It “re-loads” the chamber for another shot automatically but needs trigger action to fire. There are assault weapons, rifles and hand guns being similar in this, that will fire and refire with the effect of discharge and recoil of the weapon being enough to reset the trigger for another shot. The movement of the gun forward and back by discharge and recoil being enough movement to reset the trigger without the shooter actually having to remove or relax their finger on the trigger. We need these types of weapons for defense for a wise person might run or at least duck after being shot at once or are they better used as an offensive weapon where we are trying blast away at someone so they won’t shoot at us? (Very few dear and ducks shoot at hunters first)
Personally, while I think some types of guns are created for the single purpose of compensating someone’s lack of confidence in their manhood, I would much rather see legislation passed that required harsh penalties for any gun owner whose gun is stolen and used in a crime, used by a family member or friend with a resulting accident or anytime the gun owner him/herself uses the gun and an unintended consequence results. (Grandpa shooting his granddaughter thinking she is a threat or the divorcee shooting the family dog through the bedroom door thinking it might be her ex-husband should spend many years away from decent society.) (and folks–these are my opinions and not presented as facts)
More transparent attacks by Curly and Larry against the right of the people to defend themselves against the Marxist tyranny and dictatorship so devoutly longed for by libtards like Curly and Larry.
Well Camilla, if your position on the issue was defendable, I’m sure you would do so. Alas, I see all you can do is call people names and throw in a few conspiracies for good measure. Keep on bouncing!
Ted Nugent Revives False Report To Deny An Assault Weapon Was Used In Sandy Hook Massacre
By Media Matters
National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent relied on a false and outdated report frequently promoted by conspiracy theorists to claim that no assault weapons were used in the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. In fact, Connecticut authorities have stated that all of the Newtown victims were shot with a Bushmaster AR-15 assault weapon, with some victims receiving up to 11 gunshot wounds.
In a February 13 column for birther website WND, Nugent wrote, “No so-called assault weapon was used in the grisly murders of the children and teachers in Newton,” and instead suggested that four handguns were used to kill 20 children and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School. CNN recently promoted Nugent as having a “very firm grasp of the facts” about gun violence.
Nugent said…Newsflash for he the sheeple Redcoat Piers: No so-called assault weapon was used in the grisly murders of the children and teachers in Newton, Conn. NBC has reported the butcher used four handguns, and though we can all agree that anything reported by the networks and so much of the media should be disbelieved out of hand, even if the Bushmaster modern sporting rifle were used in the demonic slaughter of innocents, semi-automatics are not “assault weapons.” Period.
Lt. J. Paul Vance, who is the spokesperson for the Connecticut State Police, has addressed rumors that the Newtown shooter had used handguns and not an assault rifle, stating, “It’s all these conspiracy theorists that are trying to mucky up the waters”:
Vance said:…Lt. J. Paul Vance, the face of an ongoing Connecticut State Police investigation into worst grade-school shooting in U.S. history, Thursday debunked media and Internet reports that Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza killed his victims with handguns and not the Bushmaster XM-15 E2S rifle that has been a focus of a proposed federal assault-weapons ban.
All 26 of Lanza’s victims were shot with the .223-caliber semi-automatic rifle, said Vance, who bristled at claims to the contrary during an interview with Hearst Connecticut Newspapers.
“It’s all these conspiracy theorists that are trying to mucky up the waters,” said Vance, the longtime state police spokesman.
Multiple Second Amendment and gun-owner websites have attempted to cast doubt on whether the Bushmaster XM-15, a type of AR-15 rifle that is currently legal, was used in the Dec. 14 carnage done by Lanza.
Indeed, the NBC News segment Nugent cited has been used to stoke such conspiracies.
Nugent’s argument that firearms like the Bushmaster “are not ‘assault weapons’” is also false. Before the gun industry attempted to rebrand assault weapons as “modern sporting rifles” in 2009, gun manufacturers, firearms enthusiasts and advocates for an assault weapons ban all used the term “assault weapon” to specifically refer to military-style semi-automatic rifles, like the one used in the Newtown massacre.
In his column, Nugent also claimed, “The AR-15 has more in common with a common .22 semi-automatic squirrel rifle than a military assault weapon.” This statement is highly misleading as the AR-15 was directly derived from the military standard issue M16 rifle. As one 1985 advertisement for a Colt AR-15 put it, “The AR-15A2 Sporter II is the civilian version of the battle proven and recently improved U.S. military M-16A1.” Furthermore, while the .223 caliber ammunition commonly used in AR-15 rifles and the 5.56mm ammunition used by M16 rifle are quite similar, the ammunition used by a .22 caliber hunting rifle is quite different and has a much lower velocity and penetrating ability.
