A child who likely fell asleep was left on a bus last week, after the driver had checked all the seats, according to the Daily News in Wahpeton, N.D. He was found wandering around the bus shop at about 9:15 a.m.

Although the driver had checked each seat, the check was conducted in the shop, which is not well-lit.

The boy’s mother, Hope Zephier, was called at about 9:30 a.m. when the kindergartner didn’t show up for school. She told school officials she had put the child on the bus at 8:15 a.m.

After about an hour, she received the call that her son had been located.

School and bus company officials will meet to discuss policies so children are not left on buses in the future, said school superintendent Rick Jacobson, but beginning immediately, drivers will do their checks outside the shop.
