Ingebrigtsen: No more gun control — plain and simple [UPDATED]

As a former sheriff and current state senator, I was sworn to uphold the Constitution of the State of Minnesota and the United States. I take this oath seriously. Unfortunately, it is apparent that some do not.

I have noticed Freedom of Speech, under the 1st Amendment, continually protected while our 2nd Amendment is constantly under attack. While I may not agree with all aspects of protection under the 1st Amendment, it is what makes America great. The 2nd amendment should be as equally protected in its entirety.

My sincerest sympathy goes out to all families and friends involved in the recent shootings in our country, but the shooter, not the gun, is the problem. The fact is that less people are killed with guns now, than in the past.

The two greatest mass murders in our country were not committed with guns. One was a domestic terrorist who killed 28 children and 140 adults with a homemade bomb. The second was by foreign terrorists who used airplanes to murder over 3,000 of our citizens.

Therefore, I stand with law abiding citizens, sheriffs and chiefs who will uphold the constitution and not allow our own government to infringe on citizens’ right to keep and bear arms. I will also assist in passing legislation that will truly deal with the safety of our children without assaulting our 2nd amendment rights.
