PAYNESVILLE — The Otter boys hockey team traveled to Paynesville with the hopes of duplicating an earlier 7-1 win over the River Lakes Stars Saturday, but an early lead saw the Fergus boys fight from behind the entire night as the host claimed a 6-3 victory.

The Stars were able to take a two goal lead after the first period of play as Dylan Jude snuck in a goal at 3:27 and Daiton Johnson slipped in another at 13:36.

Fergus was able to rally back in the second period as Joe Nathe lit the lamp off a Sam Rausch pass early on in the period. Jesse Ketonen tied the game up for the Otters three minutes later with assists from Nathe and Rausch.

River Lakes would fire back with two goals of their own as Jake Herges and Matt Kissner each notched a goal. Alex Phillipe would keep Fergus within striking distance as his unassisted goal put the Otters down 4-3 entering the second intermission.

The Stars were able to put the game away in the final period as Stefan Tornovic and Joe Spaulding would add two more goals to put the game out of reach.

The Otters attack the River Lakes net regularly, but was only able to get three of its 38 shots on goal to penetrate, while the Stars finished with 33 shots on net, six for goals.

The Otters will finish their regular season schedule on the road Thursday as they travel to take on St. Cloud Apollo in a 7:15 p.m. game at the MAC.
