Otter boys go cold in loss to Eagles [UPDATED]

After an exciting comeback against Rocori on Tuesday night, the Fergus Falls boys basketball team had a setback Thursday, failing to overcome a slow start and a shooting drought in a 68-47 home loss to St. Cloud Apollo.

“It was a tough loss because of the great win we had on Tuesday night,” said Otter head coach Dave Rund. “The energy we played with was lacking and we didn’t play with a sense of energy, so we were flat.”

Mike Millard and Austin Rund led the Otters on the night. Millard dropped 14 points and pulled down 8 boards, while Rund had 13 points and 7 rebounds. As a team, the boys shot just 30 percent from the field, going 12 for 40. Combined with Brett Maslonkowski’s 28-point effort in the game for Apollo, Rund said he felt the Otters’ low offensive productivity led to the loss.

Despite the loss, Fergus looks to regain the momentum they had in their previous two games when they travel to section 8AA rival Thief River Falls on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

“A short memory is a good thing,” said Rund.

With the loss, the Otters fall to 12-8 on the season, and 7-5 in the Central Lakes Conference.
