Kennedy student Kayla Hexum wrote an essay about how eating a good breakfast, including oatmeal, helps fuel up to play during the day. The essay won a visit from former NFL Viking player Ben Leber as part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 Breakfast Challenge Celebration.

Leber will be visiting Kennedy Secondary School Feb. 21 from approximately 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. to speak about the Fuel Up to Play 60 program and his personal commitment to wellness, and the importance of breakfast. Leber will reinforce healthy eating, specifically breakfast as brain food, and being physically active 60 minutes each day. Leber will also help lead the 200 seventh grade students in a physical activity. Leber will visit with Fuel Up to Play 60 student ambassadors, sign a few autographs and be available for photos.

Kayla Hexum’s winning essay was part of a class assignment in Mrs. Enderson’s FACS class last fall.

The goal of this event to reward students who participated in the Oatmeal Super Bowl Breakfast Challenge Event and to motivate seventh graders to get involved in Fuel Up to Play 60 as a way to make their school a healthier place for everyone, because healthy kids make better learners.
