FF 12U swept in district play

The 12U A girls hockey team sponsored by Scots Machine Shop played in the District 15 12U A tournament in Little Falls over the weekend.

The first game had the number four seeded Fergus Team against the number five seeded 12U A girls team from Detroit Lakes.

DL started strong scoring the first three goals of the game to take a 3-0 lead after the first period.

Fergus answered early in the second with an unassisted Power Play goal by Alex McKinnell, and then a minute later a goal by Sophie Rausch assisted by Lauren Werner to pull Fergus within a goal.

Later in the second period Hallie Sheridan scored an unassisted goal to finish the second period with a score of 4-3 in favor of Detroit Lakes.

But the third period belonged to Detroit Lakes as they scored four goals on six shots and pulled the first round upset beating Fergus Falls 8-3.

Goaltending duties were shared by Jadyn McKeever and Elaina Toppari they combined for 14 saves in the game.

The second game had Fergus Falls against third seeded Moorhead.

Moorhead started the scoring just 10 seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Fergus’ Sheridan tied the game on a goal assisted by Rausch. Then Fergus took the lead on a goal by Angie Theede assisted by Georgia Wildung. Moorhead tied the game with the next goal, but an unassisted goal by Wildung gave Fergus a 3-2 lead late in the second period.

Moorhead then went on a scoring run pumping in the next four goals to take a 6-3 lead.

Rausch was able to get an unassisted goal mid way through the third period but it was too little too late as time ran out Moorhead won the game 7-4 and eliminated Fergus Falls from the tournament.

Goalies McKeever and Toppari made 19 saves in the game.
