Simien incorporates diverse musical styles [UPDATED]
Published 9:12am Thursday, February 21, 2013 Updated 11:14am Thursday, February 21, 2013I hope to see you at A Center for the Arts tomorrow night for our last show in February on Friday, Feb. 22, when Grammy Award-Winning artist Terrance Simien and his band, the Zydeco Experience will be performing. This show is going to be fantastic.
Simien is an 8th generation Louisiana Creole. His music is an eclectic fusion of Zydeco that incorporates diverse music styles and creates a hypnotic blend of Zydeco-roots-New Orleans funk-reggae-flavored-Afro-Caribbean-world music. Leading his Zydeco Experience Band, Simien has become one of the most respected and internationally recognized touring and recording artists in roots music today. This show will, no doubt, have a New Orleans feel to it.
The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are still available.
Terrance Simien is part of our 2012-13 Center Series. The remaining shows are Greek guitarists Pavlo on March 16 and the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra on April 27.
We are gearing up for the 2013-14 season now. We announced the line-up of performers last Friday. Flyers are available, and we are taking reservations for tickets.
Current series ticket holders have until March 15 to re-purchase their seats. Then everything is open to the public.
If you didn’t buy the series last season, but really want to buy the new one, call us and get on a waiting list. After March 15, series tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis, starting with those on the waiting list.
The performers in the new Center Series are: Grammy award winner flutist Rhonda Larson with her band Ventus on Saturday, Sept. 21; Juno award winners Dala on Saturday, Oct. 12; Thodos Dance Chicago on Saturday, Nov. 16; Emmy winning actor Anthony Zerbe: “It’s All Done With Mirrors” on Friday, Jan. 10; Juno nominees The Bills on Friday, Feb. 14; PROJECT Trio on Friday, March 21; and “An Evening With Groucho” featuring Frank Ferrante, the greatest living interpreter of Groucho Marx, on Friday, May 9. The second weekend of March starts off with a bang with Razzle Dazzle Revue: “Random Acts Of Music!” This is our annual spring fundraiser and is always a lot of fun.
As mentioned above, award winning Mediterranean/Greek guitarist Pavlo is next on the schedule when he performs on Saturday, March 16.
Later in March, we are going to present the comic play, “Money to Burn,” written by Laura Johnson, who has been involved in community theater in Fergus Falls for years. It’s still in the planning stages, but the cast is already working together learning lines. We did this play do in the late 90s, and many of the same actors are reprising their roles. (I’ll be directing again.) We’re all really looking forward to it.
