State Hospital Coffee Klatch continues [UPDATED]

The Otter Tail County Historical Society is holding the second of its State Hospital Coffee Klatch series at 10 a.m. Friday, at the museum in Fergus Falls.

Last week a panel of retired employees discussed what some of the nearly 50 buildings on the hospital campus were used for over the decades.

On Friday another panel of “old timers” will talk about what work was like on a daily basis.

With 1,800 patients housed at the hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week, a system had to be in place in which each employee knew their role. What were jobs like for attendants, nurses, administrators, doctors? Where procedures in place for emergencies? What was a typical day like?

The answer to these and many other questions will be discussed. If the first week is any indication, this Friday’s Coffee Klatch will be informative, entertaining and insightful.

For more information call the historical society at 218-736-6038 or visit www.otchs.org.

This program is free and open to the public.
