The Hillcrest girls basketball team looked to end their home season on a high note, but the visiting Verndale Pirates had different things in mind as they stormed onto the court and left with a 64-37 win.

The Pirates got off the bus ready to play in the first half as they were able to possess a 39-20 halftime lead in the non-conference game.

In the second half, the visitor was able to keep their momentum going as the Comets could not recover from the deficit.

Kelsey Nersten led the Comet shooters with 15 tallies in the game, while teammate Megan Aasness led the team in rebounds with six.

The Comets will hit the road for their last two regular season games starting with a Little Eight Conference tilt against Ashby Friday at 5:45 p.m.
