Temperature swings popping open potholes [UPDATED]
Published 5:56am Monday, February 25, 2013 Updated 8:03am Monday, February 25, 2013The recent string of cold and warm days has meant the rise of potholes.
City crews took advantage of the warm day Friday to fix potholes using the special machine, focusing on high-traffic streets such as Vernon, Fir and Friberg avenues. The work will continue next week, with temperatures expected to reach the upper 20s all week.
It’s that time of year when we start going from cold to warmer days and back to cold,” City Public Works Director Anne Martens said. “When moisture gets into the asphalt, it pops open those potholes.”
Martens encouraged residents who see a particularly large pothole to call the City Public Works Department at 332-5435 and report it. “We welcome the public to give us specific concerns,” she said.
