Lyle Ellert Olson, 84
Published 9:39am Wednesday, February 27, 2013 Updated 11:42am Wednesday, February 27, 2013Lyle Olson, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013. Lyle lived on Wall Lake until Christmas Day and then moved to Bird Island with his daughter, Denise.
Lyle was born in Elbow Lake to Josie and Calvin Olson. He grew in Fergus Falls with his siblings, Norma Aasness and Claire Olson.
After high school, Lyle enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed on the U.S.S. Canisteo.
Lyle and his comrades traveled on the Canisteo for Antarctic Expedition Operation Highjump from 1946-47.
After his time with the Navy, Lyle moved back to the Fergus Falls area, where he met his wife, Elizabeth (Bettie) Borowski.
Together they raised two children Steven Olson and Denise (Olson) Seidl.
Lyle worked at National Tea and More-4 as the store manager.
In 1979 Lyle and Bettie bought a home on Wall Lake where they shared time with their grandchildren fishing, swimming, and boating.
Lyle enjoyed hunting trips up north with his friends and duck hunting at his brother-in-law Bill’s farm.
Lyle was surrounded by many wonderful neighbors after his wife Bettie died in 1994.
All his lake neighbors graced him with friendship and many hearty meals through the last 15 years.
Lyle also enjoyed his annual Navy reunions around the United States, where he met up with his old buddies until he was in his 80′s.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents Josie and Claire Olson; wife Bettie; a brother, Claire Olson, his two favorite dogs Coco and Megan.
Survivors include his son, Steven (Marie) Olson, of Beverly, N.J.m and his childrenm Marianna (Ray) Loge and Stephanie Olson; a daughter, Denise (Robert) Seidl of Bird Island, and her children, Jennifer (Zachary) Robideau, Todd (Candace) Seidl, and B.J. Seidl; seven great-grandchildren, Landon, Lincoln, Harrison, Nolan, Emily, Chase and Steven.
A Celebration of Life Service is planned at Lyle’s lake home this summer.
