First Lutheran hosts Augsburg Choir [UPDATED]
Published 9:21am Thursday, February 28, 2013 Updated 11:26am Thursday, February 28, 2013The sound of international choral music is coming to Fergus Falls on Sunday, March 17, when the Augsburg College Choir will entertain listeners at First Lutheran Church .
“The choir is part of the great Lutheran college choral tradition in the state,” said First Lutheran pastor Saul Stensvaag. “This is their third time at First Lutheran Church with its fantastic acoustics and we are expecting another wonderful turnout.”
Under the direction of Peter Hendrickson, the 65-voice a cappella group will perform pieces from the romantic era, American spirituals and international music from Peru, Venezuela, Cuba and Kenya.
The event comes as part of the group’s national 2013 tour. In addition to the extensive travel across the country, the group has performed internationally in Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Most recently, the group traveled to China in 2010.
The choir has also made appearances in front of royalty, which includes a performance for King Herald V and Queen Sonja of Norway on the occasion of their visit to Augsburg College in the fall of 2011 and another for Crown Prince Haakon of Norway in 2005.
Admission to the event will be free and open to the community. A freewill offering will be held during the performance. The music will begin at 6 p.m.
