6 horses found dead near Dent

Charges are pending for a 19-year-old Dent man after a total of six horses were found dead Tuesday in rural Dent.

Following the execution of a search warrant at a home along 430th Street in rural Dent, sheriff’s deputies and State Humane Society officials found eleven additional adult horses of various breeds, color, gender and ages; two adult llamas and one juvenile llama were also taken due to inhumane conditions and poor health, according to a news release.

The animals were transferred to Hawley-based High Tail Horse Ranch and Rescue.

The Sheriff’s Office did not release the name of the suspect until charges are filed.

The Sheriff’s Office initially had reported Tuesday that two horses had died, but found four more had died following a more extensive search.

Property owners Bill and Penny Fick were out of town at the time the incident was reported Sunday.
