David D. Paulson was born Feb. 21,1934, on a farm near Battle Lake, to Clarence O. Paulson and Irene (Kemnitz) Paulson. David attended schools in New York Mills and Underwood. He graduated from Underwood High School in 1951.
From there, David joined the Marine Corp and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif., until his honorable discharge in 1955. He then attended the University of Minnesota from 1956-1959 while working at Great Northern Insurance Company and America Fore Insurance as an underwriter.
David married Arleen Ann Luhning on April 19, 1958, in Ottertail.
Four children were born to this marriage: Kevin Argyle Ralph, Cheri Ann, John David Kennedy and Brian Keith Paulson.
David purchased the Roes Agency in Wadena in December of 1961. The business was later to be the David Paulson Agency, Inc. where he worked until April 1997 when he retired. In May of 1998, David married Natalia Petera Ivashuk.
David was involved in many community organizations during his years in Wadena; planning and building of Humphrey Manor, Exalted Ruler of the Elks Club 1970-1971, men’s league at Whitetail Run Golf Course and member of the Masonic Lodge. David enjoyed time with his sons and grandchildren fishing and hunting in the areas surrounding Wadena.
He was passionate about basketball, supporting the Gophers and teams that his children and grandchildren were a part of.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Clarence 0. Paulson and Irene Paulson, son Brian Keith Paulson and sister Gwendolyn (Paulson) Birch.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Natalia Petera Ivashuk Paulson; sons, Kevin Argyle Paulson (Kimberly) of Wadena, John David Kennedy (Lisa) of Wadena, and loving daughter Cheri Ann of Anoka; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Clarence R. and Argyle R. Paulson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

An open house celebrating the life of David is planned Saturday, Feb. 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena, with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Mlitary honors to follow.
