Steven James Lyon, 32, of Fergus Falls, was convicted in Otter Tail County District Court Friday for felony second degree assault with a dangerous weapon after allegedly pointing a gun at a woman and then threatening to kill himself. He was sentenced to seven years probation.

According to the criminal complaint, Fergus Falls Police were dispatched to the 600 block of West Cavour Avenue Tuesday evening after a report that Lyon “wanted suicide by police officer.”

According to the reportee, she and Lyon had argued for most of the evening, the report says. At one point, Lyon allegedly pointed a handgun at her for about one minute. He threatened to kill himself with a shotgun, then threw the gun on the bed and told her to kill him, according to the report. The reportee left the residence and was not injured, according to the criminal complaint.

Police established a perimeter and the Otter Tail County SWAT Team assisted on the call. Police made contact with Lyon by phone starting at 10:15 p.m., and Lyon allegedly made verbal threats saying he was going to kill himself and police if they entered the residence. After 11 p.m., Lyon agreed to exit the residence, where he was taken into custody without further incident, according to the complaint.

Lyon was transported to Lake Region Hospital for evaluation and later taken to the St. Cloud VA Hospital.

As being one of the people reported on in this story it would be nice if you had the facts correct and accurate. You want to print details but you have printed bits of sentences put into new sentences that change the context entirely. And this wasn’t Tuesday this was over a year ago. Have argued about many of the things included in report as being false and or coached and yet the paper manages to make a bigger mess out of it. Also fail to mention that Steven is a veteran getting help for the many issues. Maybe you should focus on being glad that we saved one from suicide instead of inaccurately reporting things!!

Not sure how long comment moderation takes but a lot of people are waiting on it. Probably have a few more and should be receiving letters as well
