Fast start gives Knights playoff win
Published 9:25am Tuesday, March 5, 2013BARRETT — The West Central Area boys were not messing around Monday evening as they flew past the Hancock Owls for a 64-32 Section 6A playoff victory.
The Knights took control of the game from the opening bell as they were able to jump out in front of their visitor. The Owls were baffled by their hosts as they went into halftime down 39-16.
West Central continued to lay on the pressure in the second half, but Hancock was unable to find an answer as the Knights rode away with the win.
“We played well against a team that has been hot lately and we got contributions from the whole team again,” Knights coach Kraig Hunter said. “Dakotah Kashmark sparked us early and we had a good defensive effort.”
The Knights’ Jay Zimmerman had another good game scoring 16 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and two block shots.
Teammate Dakotah Kashmark (14) and Brady Combs (12) were also in double digits in scoring.
The Knights will look to continue their playoff campaign Thursday as they travel to take on Battle Lake in a 7 p.m. second round tilt.
In their previous meeting this season, the Battlers were able to get the better of West Central in a 60-38 early season win.
