He was born March 21, 1939, in Fergus Falls, the son of Oscar and Rozetta (York) Sander. He grew up in Fergus Falls, attending Lincoln Elementary School and Washington High School. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1956, and was a military policeman guarding jet planes at Hamilton Air Base in California for two years.

He returned to Fergus Falls and met the love of his life, Linda Mittelstadt. They were married on Nov. 27, 1965, in Fergus Falls.

They made their home in Springdale, Conn., for three years. Because of his aging parents, he and his family returned to Fergus Falls.

In 1969, he started employment with the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center for a period of 27 years. Poor health lead to his retirement at 57 years of age.

Oscar enjoyed reading biographies and about the history of the Civil War, and World Wars I and II. Attending area flea markets in the summer were a favorite past time. He also was a classic movie fan.

His role model was John Wayne. He admired the way John Wayne lived his life with integrity and honesty.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Oscar and Rozetta Sander.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; and son, Jim Sander, both of Fergus Falls; sisters Ruth Tolbert of Woodbury and Olive DeLaurie of Dilworth; brother-in-law Roger (Marilyn) Mittelstadt and mother-in-law Gladyce Mittelstadt, all of Fergus Falls; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friday 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.

Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, at the PioneerCare Celebration Center, Fergus Falls

Burial: Will be in the spring at Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls
