10 escape safely from Deer Creek fire

Ten people made it out of a house that was on fire late Thursday night in Deer Creek. There were no injuries though the house was a total loss.

A New York Mills Police Officer was on patrol in Deer Creek and observed the house on fire, according to a news release from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office. The officer alerted the occupants of the house at 216 N. Clark St. and got everyone out. Deer Creek Fire extinguished the blaze, which is believed to have started from an ash tray near the exterior entrance to the house.

Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, New York Mills Police Department, Wadena Fire Department and Henning Ambulance also responded to the call. The owners of the house received assistance from the American Red Cross.
